I love podcasts.
I really love podcasts about history (there are lots of them). Here’s one of my favorites…
Stuff You Missed in History Class Podcast: “Who were the stars of the Wild West shows? What were the battles of the Pyramids and Nile? Listen in as Deblina and Sarah unravel history’s enigmas with the Stuff You missed in History Class, a podcast from howStuffWorks.com.”
Your assignment for this week is to make a podcast that covers some person, topic, battle, event or idea from the Revolutionary Period that is obscure and/or very interesting to you personally.
In other words, I don’t want you to make a podcast about George Washington (unless it’s about some weird aspect like his supposed wooden teeth and cherry chopping antics).
The podcast should be at least 5 minutes and can be as long as you need (don’t be boring).
How do you make a podcast?
Easy!
There are great tools like AudioBoo (can record on web and mobile) or Aviary’s Myna (which hooks up to our school Google Apps accounts) or ISaidWhat?! (iPhone app) among the many dozens of choices.
Our class iPads have a ton of tools that make the recording and editing parts easy. All Windows and Mac laptops also have easy to use voice recording software already installed. If you have a question, just let me know or ask your classmates!
So here are the requirements:
- At least 5 minutes in length
- No reading straight from sources unless you cite them (primary sources FTW)
- Music or some sort of intro/outro sound
- Published on your blog (you get to figure that out, but I’ll help of course). If you want to publish to iTunes in their podcast directory, I’ll show you how to do that as well.
- Learn and enjoy!
Oh, and have fun!
